Young Wolf

Prolog

The night was dark and eerie. Cold, chilling wind seemed to cut through the air like a dark assasin's blade. The stars were dimmer then usual and the moon was so scared it didnt dare show its bright face, hideing behind a curtain of blackness. The brightest light was the dim street lamp of a sleepy litfle town in the woods. Beside the menacing of the dark night air ,all seemed still ....

Sudenly, the calm was peirced by the sound of the bushes on the edge of the town as a figure burst from them. The young woman ran down the street as quickly and quietly as she possibly could. She carried a small basket and held it close to her chest so it wouldent move so much.

She raced furthar down the sidewalk, her blondish brown hair whiping in the wind. Looking over her shoulder every now and then, her expression was desprate and fearfull. Something was obviously following her. Something that wanted her dead.

She stoped at a small house under the dull light of the street lamp. Slowly and shakely she aproched the door. She layed the basket down and moved the blanket from the top of it revieling the face of a small baby. Tears rolled down the womans cheeks as she kissed her baby girls forehead. "Ill miss you ..." The woman whispered to the small child, her voice trailing off at the sound of a horrible screech break the night air followed by evil laughter.

The woman quickened her pace. She cryed silently as she rang the door bell and darted away from the house. "Farewell my daughter." She said quietly as she ran down the street. Shadowy figures finally caught up to her. They  followed the woman back into the forest. A loud sorrowfull scream cut through the night then all fell silent once again.

The baby cryed on the porch of the house and a young couple opened the door of the house.

"Whos there." She man called.

"Lance, look at this." The woman with him said. She kneeled down to the basket and lifted the crying baby girl out of it.

"Sara ..." Lance started but Sara cut him off. She cradeled the baby close and soon, the child stoped crying. Sara smiled brightly and turned to her husband.

"Shes beautiful. Why would anyone leave her?" She asked. Lance shook his head partly not knowing how to answer and partly suprised by the little bundle.

He noticed a long silver necklace around the baby's neck. It was a pure gold circle about the size of a dollar coin and it looked hand make like it was crafted by the hands of a master jewler. Lance reached down and fingered it to get a closer look. On the front was a very detailed and realistic carveing of a wolf howling etched into the silver. He fliped it over and engraved on the back in a beautiful, unique coligraphy was the word 'Luna'.

"Her mane's Luna." Lance said showing his wife the back of the baby's necklace.

"Luna." Sara muttered admireing the name. "Its perfect for her."

"Well we cant leave her out here alone." Said Lance truely worried for the child and Sara nodded.

"Well bring her inside out of the cold."

Lance nodded and lead the way back into the house. Sara smiled at the little baby who was now grinning and giggleing instead of crying.

"I love that nane ... Luna ..." She whispered before following Lance inside.
