The she-cat pricked her ears and sighed in relief. She turned around to face the three cats on the other side of the river. One spat:" You mangy river rat!" Another;"Get back over here and fight Milltail!" "Loner!" Milltail arched her back. She unseathed her claws. "Scardie cats! You won't even cross the river!"

"Coward!" A cat yowled. Milltail darted forward in a silver, grey, and white blur, and the cat fell, their shoulder cut. The three other cats followed, falling. Milltail never slowed during the attack. She pinned one cat down. "Mudstripe, take your warriors and leave." She turned and swam across the river, storming into the undergrowth.
