don't bother me. I'm sleeping [p]

"Battle scars? More like my son's attempt at killing me. Their plot failed, when Milkyway showed up, heavily pregnant by the way. They fled, not wanting to harm her. I'm not sure how I got back to camp." Ace had not meant to reveal that much, but it all came out. It was a year ago in leaf-bare.

Spectralpaw's frown deepened at the revelation. Now that the subject had been brought up in their conversation twice, she felt that there was no way she couldn't ask why his son had plotted against him. Despite this fact, she still thought him to be a rather pleasant character, and certainly a good conversationalist. "Why," she wondered aloud. "was he trying to kill you?"

"They," Ace corrected, thinking back to the two of them. He had buried the memory he could not think of their names. Yeah, he could but it brought back memories. "The two of them tried to kill me because I was not a good father to them." His gaze went to his paws, and he thought of Cobalt and how she actually cared for him. He got her pregnant. What a good daughter she was.

Spectralpaw didn't bother to mask her confusion. They had tried to murder Ace, an act that would likely lead to exile and an afterlife spent in the Dark Forest, all because he was a bad father? Granted, her own father was the most awful creature to walk on four legs, and she knew her mother wouldn't hesitate to kill him if she had the chance. But that was different; he had murdered innocent kittens and tortured her mother among other far less pleasant things. "Surely you didn't do anything so horrible that it would justify murder." she commented, though she honestly didn't want to find out if he was capable of deeds as terrible as those her father had committed.

Ace shrugged,"I don't pretend to know how their minds work. Or worked. I'm not sure if they re alive or not." In all, he did not care for his sons. They could not love. It was simple as that.

Well, there was nothing to be said in response to that. His apathetic attitude was unnerving, so instead of offering some sort of commentary, Spectralpaw remained silent, pondering this new facet of Ace's personality. Would she care at all for her sons if they attempted to kill her? Having no experience in that regard, she couldn't say for certain.

"Did I say something?" Ace chuckled,"just take my advice and don't do something you will forget later. It will come and bite you in the ass."

Spectralpaw shook her head. "No, no. It's just..." She worried momentarily about offending him, but he hardly seemed to take offense to anything, so she continued. "I can't believe you're so apathetic about the entire ordeal. Then again," she mused, "I suppose if you let it get to you you'd be wallowing in misery for the rest of your life." Flicking her ears thoughtfully, she added, "I'll be sure to keep that in mind."

"It's true. Going to sleep at night is the worst. Your brain just keeps on re-playing all the bad things you have done over and over again. So, that's why  wander around StarClan." He wasn't trying to be apathetic, it was just how he saw things. Well, that thing anyway. Maybe he did feel pity for his sons--he had not seen them around StarClan so they were either dead or in the Dark Forest.

Spectralpaw was inclined to agree. Conversing in dreams was a welcome change to the nightmares and worries she'd been agonizing over lately. She would certainly take his advice and try not to worry herself sick over things she couldn't control, and maybe a nightly visit to StarClan would soothe her nerves. "Wandering around StarClan is an effective way to keep anxiety at bay," she agreed.

"I suppose I'll see you around, yes? Maybe you could come to SunClan. Dawn is coming rapidly and I have patients." Ace rested his tail on her shoulder, in a way of friendliness.

[sure ^^]

Oh, right. Spectralpaw had become so immersed in her conversation with Ace that she had quite nearly forgotten that she was in a dream, and she would have to wake up eventually. She was a bit disappointed, but comforted herself with the thought that she had befriended the medicine cat and thus would be welcome in SunClan should she ever decide to visit. With a soft smile, she replied, "Yeah. Maybe I'll see you around. A pleasure meeting you, Ace."

For a moment, she lingered there, a bit unsure of how exactly she was going to leave. Scowling, she did the only thing she could possibly think to do to escape a dream; unsheathing her claws, she jabbed herself sharply. Immediately, the feline and his forest faded out of her vision, and when she opened her eyes again, Spectralpaw found herself safe in her nest in ShadowClan, her paw throbbing from where she'd stabbed it.

"Fantastic way to start the day." she growled to herself crossly, heaving herself upright and leaving the den to start another day.
