Sunny yawned. He stretched out on the couch he had dragged in from a dump. He was in an abandoned apartment complex, in the room that would have served as an office. He stared up at the crumbling ceiling, wishing it would just fall on him and end his pitiful life. "Not like anyone would miss me." He thought out loud, sighing. A rat crawled out of the sink and onto his lap. He pet the wet white and black rodent with the ghost of a smile. "Hey, Emily." He said affectionately. "Find anything to eat?" The rat bit him, and he smiled. "Still just me, I see. Well, I brought you a snack." He reached into the worn out bag his mother had given to him in an easier time. He took out a moldy sandwhich and, ripping it in half, gave some to the rat. The other half, he stuffed in his mouth, wincing at the taste. The rat took the food and ate it happily. Sunny swallowed and drank some stale rainwater he had managed to collect over the years.

Sunny hear someone and looked out the dirty window cautiosly. Emily sat on his shoulder, peering out the window withher beady black eyes. "Wonder who's visiting, huh?" Sunny whispered to her. He set her on the top of his head. "Let's go see." He kept to the shadows so he was practically invisible. He watched Hanah carefully.

Sunny laughed a little. "That was my mindset, too. But she had a paper wrapped around her. I think it was an add once. It said 'Emily's' on it. And considering she had managed to drag it through everything, I thought it must have been a pretty tough name." He knelt down and put his hand to the ground. He whistled, and Emily scurried onto it. Without waiting for him, she jumped onto his shoulder and onto his head.
