Robb had to give a grin of his own. "I think I'm ready for it. Of course, how well I do in an assessment and how well I do in battle against the Clattering Army, for example, can be two completely different things," the young Knight pointed out, but further conversation was made impossible.
"You are all trainees, yet each of you is as skilled, or even more so, than some of the Knights. Or at least you should be. That is what we are here to test. Failing the examinations does not mean the second end of the world. You will simply continue as a recruit until the next assessment," Ser Marivik announced, his eyes lingering on each trainee for seemingly the same amount of time.
"You all know how few of us are left here in Avardail. This is your chance to prove yourselves worthy of being the guardians of humanity. On a clear day you can see the city of Sanctum, just half a mile from here. That is what we guard, the last fortress of humanity. Prove to us, and to yourselves, that you are capable and true," the Lord Commander continued, and then he pulled out a scroll. "We will begin with a combat exercise, as the first duty of a Knight is to defend his race with cold hard steel or strong wood," Marivik said, nodding over to the training fields, "You may choose your first opponent."
