It was dark, the sun long set over the horizon and finally giving the moon a chance to rule, cloaking the world in its dark, leery glow. Sorna had always thought the moon was a selfish thing. Why else would it make everything dark, coating it in a thick inky blackness so it could only be seen? The center of the worlds attention? But maybe that was she who only thought those things, after all she was a very selfish being herself.. wasn't she? No kind soul would leave her kingdom of dirt to fend for itself, let alone a mate to wonder and worry.
But she had done all of that, without a second thought. Her mind had been clouded by her mothers death, and perhaps now that was what had made her this way: her mother. But she hated that she seemed to always look for a way to blame her dam for her mistakes, because they were no ones but her own. The brown tabby had been dreading this, when peace would settle over the Elite and she wouldn't be able to hide from Nero any longer. She could see that he wanted to speak with her, it was clear as day. And honestly he had a right too, she just hadn't felt up to it quite yet.
There was no hiding the talk now though, with the kits sleeping peacefully and safe. Even though Sorna had left the Elite, it seemed quite a few of the cats that resided here still held her in high respect, and she had no problem finding a couple of trusted females to watch them. Sorna didn't know if the black tom would be sleeping, but it was a chance  she would have to take. Her small jambi paws were quick as she made her way easily along the walls, and she found her way to him in no time.
"Well. I assume I can't put this off any longer." The female sat a tail lengths away from him, swallowing as her eyes moved to her paws, tail wrapping around her almost like a comfort blanket.

"You mean you don't want to talk to me?"
The tom turned his head to look at his mate, smiling with melancholy.  He kept the distance between them, afraid that getting too close to her would make her disappear.  It was a childish thought, although after missing her for so long and having her show up so suddenly, anything seemed possible.  His glowing eyes shown dull against the moon, although they pulsed with a sweet warmth that the moon didn't seem to hold. "Do you know how much I missed you?"  His voice rang with emotion, and it cracked yet again, although that didn't matter.  "So much has changed while you were gone."  He didn't offer to explain, since it hurt him to think about what Vasilica had done to the Elite that he and Sorna had tried to make great.  The cats of the Decrepit Mansion had turned around and were now heading right back to the blood and violence of Capone's days.

"And the kits..."  The melancholy smile left his face, replaced by a beaming grin.  "They're lovely."  He shook his head in disbelief, "I never expected love and fortune to be showered upon me in my darkest hour."

The females ears couldn't help but flatten against her head at the tone of the toms voice. He was mad, that much was obvious.. and she knew he had reason to be, but it didn't make it any easier to take. She wanted to move away from him, to turn and run. Of course she had no where to go, and she wouldn't leave her kits.. but it was what she felt like doing, and she couldn't help but curse herself for even doing this in the first place. She probably could have bought more time, drew this out longer. She could feel her heart thump thumping in her chest as he said he had missed her. Of course she knew he had, but had she, missed him? The thought scared her that she didn't know. She had been worried, worried that he would be mad at her. Worried what he would do... but had she missed him? She couldn't lie to Nero. She couldn't honestly say she had, so she simply didn't say anything to that.
But when he mentioned the kits, she too had to crack a smile. She admired him for loving them, she could at least give the black tom that. At his last comment her brow furrowed slightly. "Your darkest hour?" She didn't exactly know what he meant, but couldn't help but want too.

"One of my darkest hours."  He corrected himself, staring at the jambi cat with a painful smile,  "After you left, Sorna, everything went wrong.  Everything that we had tried to build for the Elite came crumbling down.  Vasilica became ruler, and she's . . ."  Pausing, the inky, black tom seethed beneath his mask of serenity.
"You know, it doesn't matter anymore.  You're back, and that makes everything better."  His smile grew more sincere, although questions tugged at his brain as he looked his mate up and down with concern,  "Enough about that.  I want to know how you are."  He mewed, dropping the previous subject immediately, "You seem . . . different after your journey - is anything wrong?  You know you can tell me."  Nero's voice was warm and welcoming, and his eyes shown with sympathy and hurt.  He hoped with all of his heart that things could return to normal now that she was back, but something seemed to stop that.

Perhaps Capone hadn't been as ruthless and mean as she had let everyone think she was. After all she had given the elite to Sorna, and she had to of known what was going to happen and the direction that the Elite was headed with that choice. And Sorna had let the Elite down, she knew that. The jambi couldn't help but fear what the other cats would  do to her, what they would say. She had always been treated as royalty, as something more than just the average cat, and now she didn't have a clue where she stood in the Elite anymore.
"Uhm. Y..yeah, everythings.. fine." Ha, the words sounded stale and flat to even her, but she couldn't let him know everything. It was easier for her to shut him out than to keep him in. Perhaps that was simply because she was a coward, plain and simple.. and couldn't face him running or rejecting her because she wasn't the Sorna he had fell in love with.
