For once, Damienn was almost relieved that someone asked about that. Maybe we can just talk about this.
Instead of about me? Angelow feigned an offended tone. Leaving me out of the loop, are you?
Damienn ignored him. "Yeah, it's kind of a weird story. I met her in a town very far south...east?" He furrowed his auburn brows, having no real idea which direction he had come from. "Her name was Blue, and she had two dads, 'cause her real dad fell in love with another man. And he was honest with Blue's mom about it, and she went crazy." He frowned a bit, recalling the details. "But then he married the other guy, so Blue had two dads. And they were both so nice."
You actually want to talk about Blue? After all she did? Angelow sounded genuinely angry, and Damienn felt the urge to retreat from the subject.
"So they took me in for awhile, but things happened, and then I had to leave." Damienn watched Maddie, searching for a reaction.
Good job, kid, Angelow scoffed. Hint to the stranger that you're homeless, too. Why don't you tell her about your tomato allergy while you're at it? Maybe she'll pour a few bottles of ketchup down your throat and put you out of your misery.

Annabel appeared next to maddie. "What you doing?" She turned to see rise. "Why's she here?"

"I'm here because she imagined me first!" Rise snarled. She was still hanging over Damienn's head.

"And your older brother?" She asked. Shh. She thought towards Annabel and Rise. "Wait..you don't have anywhere to stay?" She frowned. "I'm sorry."

Rise snickered.

"I have the whole world to stay in!" Damienn protested with a huge grin, displaying all of his teeth, like two rows of misshapen corn kernels. "So where you goin', Maddie? You go to this school? Can I come too? I haven't been here yet. Do I have to sign up? Think I'm old enough? Can I come anyway? I can hide in your backpack or something." Damienn began to bounce a bit on his shoeless heels, starting to feel waves of his usual energy.

I guess he doesn't wanna talk about, that's okay. She smiled. "Hmm." She thought for a minute, "How about we go get ice cream instead, besides school's not fun anyways." She looked at him grinning.

"Yes ice cream! Wil you imagine one for me?" Rise looked hopefully at Maddie.

"Ice cream?" Damienn eagerly reached to snatch his little messenger bag. "Awesome! Are we meeting your friends there? Who was messing with me? Rice? I like rice. Do you like rice? Ever had rice with lemon juice? People say it sounds nasty, but it's really good! Was Rice the person's name? Who names their kid Rice?" He giggled, eyes scanning around, waiting to see if 'Rice' would reveal themselves. He had yet to put it together what she meant when she said she was seeing her friends.

Of Course.
"No I haven't." She giggled. "Rise..." She stopped when he said 'friends', "You see, my 'friends' are in my head, no one can see them but me. I wish you could see them you'd probably have fun...but it's not that way." She explained.

[Foxlace]

"Yes, it is sad because he cant see me doing cart wheels through him!" Rise started doing just that. Making sure her feet went right through his face.

"Oh." He blinked once, but otherwise did not seem phased. "Do you see them now? Who's Rise? Why're they called Rise?"
Imaginary friends, do you remember that, child? Angelow's voice resonated in Damienn's mind. Do you remember? That stuffed fox your mother made you, its head kind of looked like your hat, but with bigger ears.
Shut up, Damienn grumbled silently.
Do you remember what you named it?
Yes, now go away.
Why are you so resentful of me, Damienn? All I've ever done was protect you.
Angel, Damienn thought with a sigh. The fox's name was Angel. And you're Angelow. So what? Without giving him a chance to respond, Damienn beamed a bright smile at Maddie. "What ice cream d'you like? And does Rise eat it? Can I call them Rice? Does it make them angry? What do they look like?"

"Cookies and cream." She smiled. Maddie thought for a minute. "Okay" She said squatting to his level, how about you ask her questions, because she can see and hear you, and I'll tell her what you say?" She smiled closing her eyes.

"Did she hear me, or do I got to repeat it all?" he asked. "And where is she? I wanna face her if I'm gonna be askin' her questions." Damienn dropped his messenger bag on the ground and sat in front of it, leaning his back against it and all of its black and bright cyan plaid glory.
