Backpaw gave a light sigh as he sat in his den. It seemed so empty without Sootrush in his den, he didn't know where his blind friend had gotten too. He never really considered the tom his mentor, seeing as they both had the same amount of herb knowledge by the time the fawn tabby was of age to become an apprentice. Greenhaze had disapeared after that, leaving without appointing an apprentice. Solarstar had appointed Sootrush and he as medicine cat, allowing Sootrush to have him name because he was of age.

But now the tom was no where to be found... Backpaw knew that he needed help with things around the den, he even had a kit in mind for a special something. The tom walked out of his den and called with his usual calm and mature meow. "Crystallinekit, can you come into my den please?" the apprentice called, his amber gaze bright and content with his choice.

The bulky brown tabby poked her head out of the nursery, her tail high in the air and her ears perked with glee. Finally she had gotten a good enough sleep during the night, and those kits had stopped whining and yapping as if they were flea-bitten. Her icy blue eyes darted around camp as she heard her name being called. Crystallinekit noticed Backpaw and padded over in a small skip. Because of that extra sleep, she seemed happier than usual! "Good morning, Backpaw; you called?" Her voice was polite as she talked to the medicine cat apprentice.

Backpaw watched as the young she-kit bounced forward from her den. The medicine cat apprentice himself remembered what is was like to be her age. He was almost eleven moons now, it seemed like eons ago now. The tom padded forward and looked at Crystallinekit with a gentle and kind gaze. He liked the kit, and she'd make the perfect apprentice at that!

"Crystallinekit, I've noticed that you've taken an interest in herbs" he began with a pleasant mew. He wasn't going to act fake to her, truthfully he was a happy and pleasant cat to be around. In front of cats like Burnout and Dustsky he'd act tough and ruthless but that wasn't his true personality. "Sootrush has recently disappeared and I'm looking for an apprentice. I'm travelling to Moonstone to receive my full name, I was curious to know if you'd like to become my apprentice?" the tom offered with a swift nod.

"It's your choice of course"

Crystallinekit listened intently as Backpaw spoke about Sootrush and going to the Moonstone. When he asked for her to become his apprentice, her frosty blue eyes widened like moons. This was an honor; she really enjoyed learning about herbs! Even if she did love to run and play, but helping Backpaw seemed like a knack to her. "I'd be honored to be your apprentice, Backpaw. So yes." A large, toothy and elated grin spread acoss her face.

Backpaw himself smiled and he nodded with a pleasurable smile. "Great, I'm glad I can call you my apprentice. We can start right away if you want, I control the names of my apprentices, seeing as I teach a bit differently" the fawn tabby said, his amber gaze bright and full of positivity.

"Would you like to get your apprentices name now?"

Crystallinekit gave Backpaw a big nod, eyes gleaming like shined bronze. "Yes please!" Oh, finally she was an apprentice; before her littermates as well!

[Mintyy~]

Backpaw stepped forward and rested his head on young Crystallinekit's shoulder. "By the power invested in me, I call to the heavens to honour this apprentice with the title of a medicine cat apprentice. From this moment on, until your ready to become a full medicine cat you'll be known as Crystallinepaw. The heaven's welcome you into a new life" the apprentice said with a smile. He knew that he woulnd't be an apprentice for long, he'd receive his full name, and the heavens would honour him as a full medicine cat.

"Come on, let me show you around a bit before I go" the tom told the she-kit, flicking his tail and motioning her to follow.

"Alright, coming." The new medicine cat apprentice's voice was chirpy from excitement. She padded after her new mentor, tail flicking. New smells flooded her scents; some bitter and some more sweet. She instantly recognized the feverfew and marigold, since that was what she had learned during practice.

OOC: The next thread I'll be making Backpaw will have his full name

IC: Backpaw padded into the den and walked closer to the back of the den. The tom padded forward to his nest, then pulled out a new one that had originally been an extra nest incase blood had been spilled on an older nest. "Here" the tom said, pushing the nest beside his. "There's your nest, no more sleeping in the nursery for you" the tom said with a gleeful mew. He was happy to finally have some company in the den, a she-cat in the den would be a bit strange, kinda like sleeping with his sisters again!

The tom flicked his ear, then turned and padded towards his large herb stock shelf. Crystallinepaw would easily learn all the herbs, it's where they grew, what they did and how they worked was the hard part of learning the countless herbs. "Come over here, this is your new favourite place" the tom said, waving his tail invitingly to the she-cat, looking back to his stock with a keen amber gaze.

Crystallinepaw stepped fully into the medicine cat den, using her nose to sniff around. There were many herbs here, and it really did seem like a lot to learn. You'll manage! They're easy! She mewed in her mind, feeling pride run through her. The brown tabby watched closely as Backpaw placed a mossy nest next to his own, and already couldn't wait to sleep in it. The room would be much cooler, and certainly not as stuffy as past experiences in the cramped nursery.

She flicked her tail as the medicine cat showed her the herbs, and called her over. She let out an amused purr. She probably was going to spend a lot of time here. She sat down beside him, glancing at the lot of herbs before her.

Backpaw glanced back to his new apprentice and nodded. "We'll start your training first thing tomorrow" the tom promised, padding towards yet another section of the den. This section was more cooler than the regular den. In this back portion was a large pool. It wasn't rare to find a pool of water in any of the caves in the large stone structure. Yet this pool was different, the size and quality of the water was sterling. This water must come from an underground river that leads into the territories. The fawn tabby padded forward and took a quick drink from the pond, looking back to his apprentice to see if she had followed.

The tom knew he had to leave soon. To receive his name and feel like he's an actual full medicine cat. The tom looked to Crystallinepaw with his large amber gaze. He knew that he had made the right choice. The only cat that seemed to express interest and not glory. "I think I need to get going soon. If anything happens while I'm gone go and get Haemon or Dustsky, they have some herb training" the tom told the brown tabby with a non concerning mew.

He would get his name... He knew he would.

Crystallinepaw nodded at her new mentor's words. "Alright Backpaw, I'l be sure to do that if I need help." She replied to the fawn tabby, feeling happy for him as she made herself comfy in the dusty desert cave. Her aqua colored eyes glanced at the refreshing pool of clear river water, and she got up to have a drink. Bending her head and leaning down to match the pool's height, the medicine cat apprentice lapped up some of the cool water. Living in a desert was harsh, but rewarding in the end.

She got up once again from her crouching position, walking in a slight, happy skip over to the medicine cat. "Travel safely." She nodded her brown tabby head as she flicked her slender tail back and forth repetitively. "I'll take care of the patients for a little while. I may get Dustsky and Haemon to help me." Sure, she didn't know to much about herbs and their uses, but she did know a little, like she could use cobwebs.

Backpaw nodded and began to leave the den. "Try and make the den more homey, this is your new den after all" the tom said, his tone encouraging and sweet. He was more than happy to have an apprentice now, this would be an adventure for the bot of them.

And with that, the tom left with a quick run. Off to receive his name from his ancestors.

"Aright Backpaw! Bye!" Crystallinepaw watched as he mentor darted off before turning around to see the mounds of herbs. She glanced around with her blue eyes before padding up closer to them, sniffing each one and memorizing their unique appearances. Even if the fawn tabby wasn't here at the moment, sh could still do some learning.
