I take his hand this time, the gesture is warm. "Okay...have you noticed how Haymitch isn't around? You know how he said to do anything our stylists said? I don't think he thought of this idea."

  I just shrug, "Haymitch is never around," I say, "Besides, haven't you noticed the rebellion in this idea. I mean, it's like telling the Capitol that fighting for our lives is useless. Here we are and in a few days, we'll be killing each other," I know the second I say it that I shouldn't have said it. I just voiced exactly how I feel without really thinking about anything.

My eyes widened, he just voiced my exact opinion. I smiled. "You know....we should be allies in the arena."

  A smile crept over my face, "You know, after all this, I really don't wanna kill you, so that might be a good idea," I say plainly. My heart soars, this is exactly what I need! An ally. Katniss. But then, it hits me. She probably just wants an easier way to kill me. "You know, I'll let you know about that later," I say, obviously preoccupied.

I nod. He's a big dude. I'm not surprised if someone already asked him. But then the back of my mind is whispering, 'you can't trust him! He want to kill you!', and I respond with 'he's the boy with the bread...I refuse to think he'd hurt me...' I shake my head. "Nevermind."

  I hear Katniss say nevermind and I know she wouldn't have killed me. I'm suddenly mad at myself for hesitating, but then I get an idea. What if I teamed up with the career tributes and lead them away from her? Even if we can't be direct allies I can still protect her. I look down in fear of meeting her eyes. Now that she could be gone, I only love her twice as much. I wish I could tell her how I feel but that would be really bad now.

I hold his hand gently, the feeling now has lost its warmth. I shake my head. "I'm problably going to go in alone." I admit, knowing it's problably a bad idea to tell him. But I almost want to trust him...he seems so...peaceful...

  The closeness that I felt to her for a short time is gone. I know she doesn't trust me, how could she? But now that she mentions that she's going in alone, I should probably think about my strategy. It may not do me any good considering I'm not suited for survival, but I've got to try something. I think about my last strategy, the careers. I'll be less likely to survive on my own anyway. There's also Haymitch. He can help with sponsors if nothing else. I'm sure he's got some real tips somewhere.

The coaches start to roll and they light our capes on fire. "It works..." Cinna sighs and stepps back. "Heads high, big smiles. They're going to love you." I look at Peeta and try and smile. "Best of Luck.."

  I finally look up at Katniss, "That's a relief... I thought it'd be like... well I don't really know what I'd imagined, real fire or something," I say. Soon we'll be a show. A real show for these Capitol people. This may be exciting to them, but they really don't know how we feel.

"No wonder Haymitch's not around. He wouldn't be good around an open flame, would he?" I hide a smile.

  I can't help but smile slightly, "He might explode," I say. I consider our stylists words, "Do they really expect us to act proud? I don't know about all this 'Heads high! They'll love you!' stuff. I mean, these people are about to watch us die. I guess sponsors would be in the question though... At least we don't look like last year's tributes." I look out at the crowd, these people look a lot more stupid than us! Pink hair, blue skin, cat whiskers... are they even real people? It's hard to tell if you don't live in a country like this one.

I almost laugh.  "Yeah...I'm glad I don't have to hold your hand wearing only cold dust....sorry, that would just be plain weird." I gaze at the crowd and shake my head slowly. Who are these people? People that sit around doing terrible things to their bodies while waiting for the next shipment of kids to come in.

  These people disgust me. They watch innocent children die for their enjoyment. How cruel can you actually be? "I get what your saying about the dust. That would just feel pretty awkward," I say, "I guess these costumes are better than they could be." I can tell Katniss is more enlightened and the friendly feeling returns. It feels natural to be around her now and it seems like she feels the same way I do about this whole thing. But then I remind myself about the rivalry and the feeling of friendliness becomes more cautioned.

"Yeah..." I laugh softly, something that doesn't happen very often. The chariots started to move and of course we are the last one. I watch nervously, my grip tightening on his hand.
